The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) was established in 1980 within the UW-Madison Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) to formalize and support research between NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) and SSEC. Sponsorship and membership of the Cooperative Institute was expanded to include NASA in 1988. Today, CIMSS and SSEC are considered by many to be the Mecca of Satellite Meteorology.

Interesting project:

CIMSS organized ESIP teacher workshops for 5 years and will be hosting the 27th Satellites and Education Conference this summer.
