Welcome to the new ESIP website!

Member Highlight: GCMD

NASA's Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) holds more than 29,000 Earth science data set and service descriptions, which cover subject areas within the Earth and environmental sciences.  Our mission is to assist researchers, policy makers, and the public in the discovery of and access to data, related services, and ancillary information (which includes descriptions of instruments and platforms) relevant to global change and Earth science research.  Within this mission, the directory also offers online metadata authoring tools to providers of data and services, facilitating the capability to make their products available to the Earth science community.

Group News topic: NASA's Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) hosts an ESIP data and services portal for Earth science data set and service descriptions from ESIP partners. Portals are virtual subset of the directory that facilitate focused views for organizations to maintain and document their data in one place (within the directory), without duplicating the effort to create another online directory. Access the ESIP portals at  http://gcmd.nasa.gov/KeywordSearch/Home.do?Portal=esip and  http://gcmd.nasa.gov/KeywordSearch/Home.do?Portal=esip_svcs&MetadataType=1

Reason you participate in ESIP?: GCMD participates in ESIP because we want to work with the science community to facilitate and improve access to Earth science data and services. ESIP is the best community for this approach because of the diverse member experiences, backgrounds, and research. We also work with various ESIP organizations who are interested in cataloging their Earth science data and services metadata in the GCMD.
