ESIP Update: Last call for stories to Best Story competition! Fall Preview & News from AGU, PREP and on the Total Solar Eclipse Last call for best ESIP stories competition! Fall Preview & News from AGU, PREP and on the Total Solar Eclipse; Monday Update returns Tues, 9/5

Preview:  Last call for stories to win the drone, 8/15! Fall Preview & News from AGU, PREP and on the Total Solar Eclipse

Good Morning,

As I mentioned last week, ESIP is quiet this time of year. Many calls are taking a hiatus, so please check the calendar for up-to-the day details. We will remove calls that are not happening to avoid confusion. The Monday Update is taking a brief break starting next week and will resume weekly updates the Tuesday after Labor Day.

In the meantime, a quick Fall preview is under Federation News so that you know what’s coming in September and beyond.

Want to share something over the ESIP Update break? Send to ESIP-ALL and/or share on our ESIP-All Slack team in #general. Have something to include in the September 5 Update? Send to Staff@esipfed.org by Wednesday, August 30.

Enjoy these last few weeks of summer,
Erin

Best Story Contest – Tell your ESIP Story for a chance to win a drone!
Why do you participate in ESP?  What is an interesting project that you’ve done with your ESIP colleagues?  Is there a learning experience from your ESIP involvement that you’d like to share?

As you have seen in the last few Monday Updates, ESIP is collecting member stories about how being a member of ESIP has helped your research and life. I shared a few of my stories in, ‘Long Range Transport of Erin‘ at Research As Art.

It is not too late to share your story! Read below to learn how you can tell a story and WIN A DRONE!**  We have extended the story collection to August 15. You are invited to document an ESIP story or experience through the #myesipstory Slack channel or email staff@esipfed.org and we will post.  FULL CONTEST RULES are here on the ESIP Website

AGU Open API Challenge: Scientific Program
We have all complained at one point or another about the massiveness of AGU Fall Meeting program. AGU is responding by opening up the API to the scientific program.

We invite you to develop a web-based tool that adds value to an API containing data from the Fall Meeting Scientific Program. The goal of the tool is to advance the scientific enterprise. Areas of potential value include, but are not limited to: serendipitous discovery of relevant research, discovery of new collaboration opportunities, and identification of emerging areas of science.

Deadline to Request API Access: 11 September 2017, 11:59 P.M. EDT
Submission Deadline: 2 October 2017, 11:59 P.M. EDT
All details: https://developer.agu.org/

PREP Data Prioritization Survey
The Partnership for Resilience and Preparedness (PREP) is a public-private collaboration that seeks to empower a data-driven approach to building climate resilience. It is jointly coordinated by the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) and the World Resources Institute (WRI). The purpose of this survey is to gather input on the most important data sets (both climate and non-climate data) to include in the PREP platform. The PREP Engagement Workgroup, co-led by Future Earth and WRI, has created this survey with questions about your role in climate adaptation and resilience planning and your data needs. Thanks for participating!
